Lacking with a carrier based in the Philippines, Davao Orient Air CEO envisioned to connect the Philippines' 7107 islands through air transportation. In fulfillment of this long-time plan, Davao Orient Air was christened with its first Boeing 727-200, flying from Manila to Cebu, Davao and Taiwan &lt;br /&gt;
Taoyuan. That time, DOA is still considered as a full-service carrier since it still offered First Class and Business Class seats. The demand for affordable air travel prompted DOA to offer an all-economy class seating plan for all of its aircraft, now considers itself as a low-cost carrier.&lt;br /&gt;

On the first years of the airline's operation, it suffered huge amounts of debts amounting to a maximum of $50,000,000, but the airline aggressively expanded to other cities such as Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Ho Chi Mihn. As the debt was already paid and the airline have profits, DOA began introducing flights to Seoul (Incheon), Tokyo (Narita), Bangkok, Jakarta, Beijing, Shenzhen, Macau and Guam.&lt;br /&gt;

In 1975, Aguila Airlines opened its 5-gate terminal-hub at Ninoy Aquino International (MNL/RPLL) due to the restrictions on gate leases. The opening of this terminal-hub signaled the increase of the number of daily flights from its Manila hub alone to its present 101 and freeing gates in MNL for foreign carriers. &lt;br /&gt;
