To start a successful Airline, follow these tips:

* Never operate a route at a loss, not even for pride.

* Never operate a route at a loss just to prevent competitors flooding the route. It's better to fly the route with a smaller plane, or less frequently, if you can't profit from that, then ditch the route and try a different destination.

* Only use the most economically efficient planes

* It is more efficient for a 747 to fly a route once than a 737 to fly the same route four times, for example.

* Don't use the same range aircraft from different families, for example, don't use both a 737-700 and an A320, as this will mean paying more in base cost as you are using two aircraft from different manufacturers.

* Running an airline with newer aircraft is more profitable; older aircraft incur more maintenance costs.

So, you've setup your airline, and decided on an operating base.

Now you need to decide which aircraft are more suitable based on several factors:

*Are you going to run a Low cost airline, or a premium one?

*Are you going to fly short, medium and longhaul

*Will you also fly domestic routes, for example, London Gatwick to Leeds Bradford?

If you plan on operating domestic routes as well as international routes, it may be more suitable to use a Prop plane, such as a Saab 340 or Saab 2000, generally because these domestic routes have less demand. If you plan on running a low cost carrier it is more suitable to use the most efficient planes as these reduce the costs, and with reduced costs comes more profit.

If you're looking to run a low cost airline, and operate domestic routes with lower demand i'd suggest leasing 2-3 medium range aircraft from any manufacturer keeping fuel flow, lease costs, base cost, and maintenance costs in mind. Now to serve the domestic routes you can lease several Saab's or Dash 8's which are more commonly use for short domestic flights.

* Running a Saab 2000 at 100% Loadfactor brings more profit than running a medium range jet such as an Airbus A320 or Boeing 737-800 at 50% Loadfactor.
