In 1975, Davao Orient Air opened its 5-gate terminal-hub at Ninoy Aquino International (MNL/RPLL) due to the restrictions on gate leases. The opening of this terminal-hub signaled the increase of the number of daily flights from its Manila hub alone to its present 101 and freeing gates in MNL for foreign carriers.

In 1977, it opened its second terminal-hub at Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (CRK/RPLC) to  serve its local and regional routes. A year after, another terminal-hub was opened in Mactan-Cebu International Aiport (CEB/RPMC) and Francisco Bangoy International Airport (DVO/RPMD) to cater direct flights to regional destinations.

Sometime in 1982, the airline received the executive order signed by the Philippine president that designates Davao Orient Air as the flag carrier of the Philippines, and the airline was christened in its present name, Aguila Airlines. Because of this change and the unfavorable conditions of W Connect alliance, it left the said alliance, and sought the approval to join the Flagship Alliance of R2.
