In fulfillment of this long-time plan, Davao Orient Air was christened with its first Boeing 727-200, flying from Manila to Cebu, Davao and Taiwan Taoyuan. That time, DOA is still considered as a full-service carrier since it still offered First Class and Business Class seats. The demand for affordable air travel prompted DOA to offer an all-economy class seating plan for all of its aircraft, now considers itself as a low-cost carrier. On the first years of the airline's operation, it suffered huge amounts of debts amounting to a maximum of $50,000,000, but the airline aggressively expanded to other cities such as Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Ho Chi Mihn. As the debt was already paid and the airline have profits, DOA began introducing flights to Seoul (Incheon), Tokyo (Narita), Bangkok, Jakarta, Beijing, Shenzhen, Macau and Guam. Sometime in 1977, DOA entered the long-haul flight market with flights to Delhi, San Francisco and Sydney. Two years after, flights to Dubai and Vancouver. As of today, the number of long-haul routes were increasing in numbers. == Company affairs == In its early beginnings, Aguila Airlines has been invited to be a member of W Connect alliance, which the airline gladly accepted. Due to the rapid expansion of DOA and its inclusion in an alliance, a plan to build a terminal was raised. In 1975, Aguila Airlines opened its 5-gate terminal-hub at Ninoy Aquino International (MNL/RPLL) due to the restrictions on gate leases. The opening of this terminal-hub signaled the increase of the number of daily flights from its Manila hub alone to its present 101 and freeing gates in MNL for foreign carriers. In 1977, it opened its second terminal-hub at Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (CRK/RPLC) to serve its local and regional routes. A year after, another terminal-hub was opened in Mactan-Cebu International Aiport (CEB/RPMC) and Francisco Bangoy International Airport (DVO/RPMD) to cater direct flights to regional destinations. Sometime in 1982, the airline received the executive order signed by the Philippine president that designates Davao Orient Air as the flag carrier of the Philippines, and the airline was christened in its present name, Aguila Airlines. Because of this change and the unfavorable conditions of W Connect alliance, it left the said alliance, and sought the approval to join the Flagship Alliance of R2. == Destinations == As of 1981, Aguila Airlines has been serving 48 destinations out of its four terminal-hubs: ===Asia=== *'''China **Beijing Capital **Guangzhou **Shenzhen **Wuhan *'''Hong Kong **Hong Kong *'''Japan''' **Tokyo Haneda **Tokyo Narita **Okinawa **Osaka *'''South Korea''' **Seoul Incheon **Seoul Gimpo *'''Macau **Macau *'''Taiwan''' **Taipei *'''Vietnam''' **Ho Chi Mihn **Hanoi *'''India''' **Delhi *'''Pakistan''' **Karachi *'''Thailand''' **Bangkok *'''Singapore''' **Singapore *'''Indonesia''' **Jakarta *'''Malaysia''' **Kuala Lumpur *'''Philippines''' **'''Terminal-hubs''' ***'''Manila''' ***'''Clark''' ***'''Cebu''' ***'''Davao''' **General Santos **Kalibo **Zamboanga **Iloilo **Laoag **Puerto Princesa ===Australasia=== *'''Australia''' **Sydney **Melbourne (Starts 1982) *'''New Zealand''' **Auckland *'''Guam''' **Guam *'''Palau''' **Koror *'''Papua New Guinea''' **Port Moresby ===North America=== *'''United States of America''' **Anchorage, Alaska **San Francisco, California *'''Canada''' **Vancouver ===Europe=== *'''Germany''' **Frankfurt *'''Russia''' **Moscow Domodedovo *'''Netherlands''' **Amsterdam *'''France''' **Paris Charles-De-Gaulle (Starting 1982) *'''Spain''' **Madrid (Starting 1982) ===Middle East=== *'''Iran''' **Tehran Imam Khomeni *'''Bahrain''' **Manama *'''United Arab Emirates **Dubai **Abu Dhabi ===Africa=== *'''South Africa''' **Johannesburg == Fleet == Aguila Airlines currently operates 62 aircraft and orders are still existing (as of 1981):
{| class="toccolours" border="1" cellpadding="3" style="border-collapse:collapse;text-align:left" |+ '''Davao Orient Air Fleet''' |- bgcolor=darkblue ! rowspan="2" style="width:120px;" | Aircraft ! rowspan="2" style="width:25px;" | Total ! rowspan="2" style="width:25px;" | Orders ! rowspan="2" style="width:25px;" | Options ! colspan="3" class="unsortable" | Passengers |- bgcolor=skyblue ! style="width:25px;" | Economy (Y) ! style="width:25px;" | Total |- |Boeing 707-120 |2 |0 |0 |174 |174 |- |Boeing 707-320C |3 |0 |0 |184 |184 |- |Boeing 737-200Adv |30 |4 |3 |133 |133 |- |Boeing 737-300 |9 |0 |0 |144 |144 |- |Boeing 747-300** |0 |3 |3 |487 |487 |- |Boeing 747SP |15 |0 |0 |345 |345 |- |Boeing 767-200 |0 |3 |0 |285 |285 |- |Hawker Siddely HS 748 |2 |0 |0 |58 |58 |- |Tupolev Tu-154 |1 |0 |0 |175 |175 |- |} Notes: *''All aircraft except HS 748 are equipped with Audio-Video on Demand (AVOD).'' *''** DOA is a launch customer'' [[Category:Help Template Pages]]
